HISTORY, STRUCTURE AND ACTIVITIES

Welcome to the library of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Medical University – Sofia – a place for knowledge, inspiration and academic support.

MISSION

Our mission is to be more than an archive of books; we strive to create a vibrant intellectual space that fosters the learning, research, and development of students and faculty members.

The library has existed since 1962 as a research and technical library, affiliated with the CMB, and is now a separate, independent faculty library.

The area of the library in the Faculty of Pharmacy is 120 m² – 70 m². reading rooms and 50 m² book storage, respectively.

It consists of a lending service for processing and classifying new arrivals, a reading room with 34 seats for readers, computer operation and book repositories for periodicals, monographs and scientific publications.

In the reading room, there is a free Wi-Fi zone, equipped with computers and shared space for personal laptops and tablets.  

The library collection includes over 8860 items. It includes journals, reference books, textbooks, teaching aids, dictionaries, pharmacopoeias, books and theses. It holds themes of all students by year and department, currently numbering over 2000 items.

The library provides library and information services to faculty, students, postgraduate students, graduate students of the faculty, the university and external users seeking specialized literature in pharmaceutical sciences- chemistry, botany, pharmacognosy, drug technology with biopharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmacotherapy and toxicology, pharmaceutical regulation, pharmacovigilance and pharmacoeconomics.

The Faculty of Pharmacy – Sofia publishes its print edition, the refereed journal Pharmacy. Its editorial board includes lecturers from all departments of the faculty.

Today, the management of the faculty and the teaching staff continue the tradition in terms of taking care of the preservation of the library collection and supporting all initiatives related to the modernization of its activities.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE USE, ACCESS AND HANDLING OF INFORMATION PRODUCTS IN THE LIBRARY

• Encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, pharmacopoeias, diploma theses, and rare issues can only be used within the library.
• Students can use the library resources only after a valid student book
• Students should return the borrowed library resources at the end of each semester 
• Library resources for students are subject to the following rules:

– Resources for winter session exams can be borrowed starting from September 15th of the academic year in which the student is scheduled to take the exams. These resources must be returned by the end of February. 

– Resources for summer session exams can be borrowed starting from March 1st of the academic year. They must be returned by September 15th.

– If the rules are not followed, the student will lose access to library resources for one year.
