Assoc. Prof. Niko Benbassat graduates from Medical University Faculty of Pharmacy in 1988. Since 1995 is Assistant Professor/Senior Assitant Professor, since 2013 is Associate Professor in the department of Pharmacognosy in Medical University Faculty of Pharmacy – Sofia. Defends a doctorate in the specialty of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry on the subject “Phytochemical study of taxa of the genus Astragalus L. in our country”.

He has two specialities in “Pharmacognosy and Phytopharmaceuticals” and “Analysis of drugs” acquired under SDO in Medical University – Sofia.

He is currently an associate professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy.

Participates in the training in pharmacognosy and SDO.

The research work and contributions of Assoc. Prof. Niko Benbasat are in the following areas of pharmaceutical and / or medical science and practice: pharmacognosy, phytochemistry.

He is the author of over 40 publications, 2 textbooks, 1 monograph with 60 citations in indexed journals in J. Citation Reports by Clarivate, Scopus by Elsevier, Web of science by Clavirate, Google scholar and others.

Expert in the field of phytopharmaceuticals, essential oils, saponins.

He is a participant in 13 research projects funded by the Medical University – Sofia.
