Bistra Kostova is a professor at the Department of “Technology of Medicinal Products with Biopharmacy” and Vice Dean for Accreditation and Attestation for the term 2025-2029. She graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Medical University-Sofia in 1996. In 2008, she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Development and characterization of matrix systems based on newly synthesized zwitterionic copolymers”. She holds degrees in: “Technology of Dosage Forms with Biopharmacy” and “Clinical Pharmacy”, acquired through the postgraduate studies at MU-Sofia.
The research work and contributions of Prof. Kostova are in the following areas: design of polymer carriers with precisely defined characteristics in order to improve the efficiency and biocompatibility of drug delivery systems; study of different types of polymer networks as potential carriers for drug molecules; micro and nanostructured systems.
She is the author of over 70 scientific publications, textbooks and teaching aids, with over 450 citations in numerous indexed journals in J. Citation Reports of Clarivate, Scopus of Elsevier, Web of science of Clarivate, Google scholar, etc.
Expert in the field of: technology of dosage forms, medicinal and cosmetic products, clinical pharmacy, nanotechnology, etc.
Participant in a number of scientific projects funded by: Scientific Research Fund of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”; Medical University – Sofia and the National Fund for Research at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science.
Reviewer for Bulgarian and foreign scientific journals, including the journal of the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Pharmacy – “Pharmacia”.
Member of the Bulgarian Association for Pharmaceutical Technologies and the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Pharmacy.
