Prof. Bistra Kostova graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Medical University of Sofia in 1996. From 2002 to 2017 she successively held the positions of Assistant, Senior Assistant, Chief assistant and Associate Professor. She defended her doctoral thesis on the topic: “Development and characterization of matrix systems based on newly synthesized zwitterionic copolymers.” She has specialties in: ” Pharmaceutical technology and biopharmacy” and “Clinical Pharmacy”. Since 2017 she has been a Professor at the Department of “Pharmaceutical technology and biopharmacy”. Participates in the education of students in the disciplines “Pharmaceutical technology with biopharmacy” Part I, ” Pharmaceutical technology with biopharmacy ” Part II, “Biopharmacy and pharmacokinetics” and the elective on “Technology of cosmetic products”.

The research work and the contributions of Prof. Kostova are in the following directions: design of polymeric carriers with precisely defined characteristics in order to improve the efficiency and biocompatibility of drug delivery systems; study of different types of polymer networks as potential carriers for medicinal products; micro and nanostructured systems.

She is the author of over 60 publications, 2 textbooks, with over 260 citations in indexed journals in J. Citation Reports by Clarivate, Scopus by Elsevier, Web of science by Clavirate, Google Scholar and others.

Expert in the field of: pharmaceutical technology, cosmetic products, clinical pharmacy, nanotechnology, etc.

Participant in a number of research projects funded by the: Research Fund, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”; Medical University – Sofia and the National Fund for Research at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science.

Reviewer for various scientific journals, including the journal of the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Pharmacy – Pharmacia.

Member of the Bulgarian Association for Pharmaceutical Technologies and the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Pharmacy.
