Prof. Krassimira Yoncheva graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Medical University of Sofia in 1993. The same year she was promoted to Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics. In 2011 she became Associate Professor and has been a Full Professor since 2016. 

In 2001 Krassimira Yoncheva defended her PhD degree in Pharmaceutics with a thesis on “Development of biodegradable poly(malate) microspheres“. In 2021 she defended her Doctor of Science degree with a thesis on “Development of nanosized drug delivery systems loaded with biologically active substances“.

She has specialized in “Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics” and “Clinical Pharmacy” in Medical University of Sofia.

From 2001 to 2002 Prof. Yoncheva carried out a specialization focused on polymeric nanoparticles for ocular drug delivery at University of Antwerp (Belgium). During 2002-2004 she completed a specialization in the field of bioadhesive polymeric nanoparticles for oral drug delivery at University of Navarra (Spain).

Prof. Yoncheva is Head of Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics and Vice-Dean of Science and Research. She teaches disciplines “Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics” and “Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics”. She was invited as lecturer for University of Navarra (Spain) and University of Siena (Italy).

The research area of Prof. Yoncheva is related to development and biopharmaceutical characterization of polymeric micro- and nanoparticulate drug delivery systems, surface modification of micro- and nanoparticles by pegylation, coating of nanoparticles with bioadhesive polymers, development and characterization of polymeric micelles, drug stability etc.

Prof. Yoncheva has participated in 16 research projects (2 of which international). She is an author of a European patent and more than 100 publications (90 of them with impact factor) with more than 1200 citations (h-index of 21 according to Scopus).

Prof. Yoncheva has been appointed reviewer of scientific papers in various journals published by Еlsevier, Taylor & Francis etc. She is a member of the Editorial Board of Pharmaceutics of MDPI.
