Professor Valentina Boyanova Petkova-Dimitrova, PhD, graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Medical University of Sofia in 1996. Since 1997, she has been working in the Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmacy of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Medical University of Sofia, first as a full-time doctoral student, then successively as an assistant, senior assistant and chief assistant. Since 2008, she has been elected as an associate professor, and since 2012, a professor. She holds specialty degrees in Organization and Economics of Distribution and Pharmacy Practice, Organization and Economics of Pharmaceutical Production, Clinical Pharmacy and Hospital Pharmacy, acquired at the Medical University of Sofia, as well as a second master’s degree in Public Health and Health Management (2012). She graduated from the Technical University of Sofia with a master’s degree in Marketing and Management in 1998.
Deputy Dean for International Integration of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University of Sofia for the term 2012-2016. For two terms, she was the Vice-Rector for Science and Accreditation of the Medical University-Sofia – 2016-2024.
She conducts lectures, practical exercises, seminars, supervision of master’s theses and doctoral studies in mandatory and optional disciplines taught in the department: History of Pharmacy, Medical Devices, Social Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Legislation, Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmaceutical Care in Bulgarian and English.
She is an expert in the field of pharmaceutical legislation. She is a member of the Expert Councils on Retail Trade and Advertising of Medicines at the Bulgarian Association of Pharmaceuticals. She is a member of the Board of BALI and secretary of the Bulgarian section of the Balkan Medical Union. She was a member of the Supreme Council of Pharmacy, and is currently the chief coordinator of the Expert Council on Organization and Economics, Drug Technology and Hospital Pharmacy.
She is the author and co-author of over 300 scientific publications and textbooks, with 800 citations in indexed journals in J. Citation Reports of ISI Web of Knowledge-Thomson Reuters, Google scholar, etc. She is the leader and participant in 12 scientific projects funded by the EU, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Medical Science Council of MU-Sofia.
She is the scientific supervisor of 42 graduate students, 28 postgraduate students, and under her leadership 10 doctoral students have successfully defended their dissertations.

Children, etc.
The scientific research work of Prof. Petkova is focused on several contemporary areas of pharmaceutical science and practice, such as pharmaceutical care, communication, pharmaceutical marketing and management, artificial intelligence, and pharmaceutical legislation.
