Prof. Denitsa Momekova, PhD, DSc is Professor of Technology of Drug Dosage Forms and Biopharmaceutics and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology with Biopharmaceutics, Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University of Sofia (MU-Sofia) for the 2025–2029 mandate.
She graduated in Pharmacy from MU-Sofia in 2000 and has advanced through every stage of the academic career, from Assistant Professor (2001) to Full Professor (2017). She defended her PhD in 2008 on steric stabilization of liposomes using polyethylene oxide-based copolymers and was awarded the Doctor of Sciences (DSc) degree in 2023 for her research on nanoscale drug carriers and hybrid dosage forms for controlled delivery of drugs and therapeutic genes.
Prof. Momekova also holds postgraduate specializations in Drug Technology and Clinical Pharmacy, as well as advanced training in Organic Cosmetic Science.
Her research focuses on:
• Development of nanosized, stimuli-responsive carriers (liposomes, niosomes, polymeric micelles, macrocyclic cavitands) and hybrid dosage forms for targeted delivery of drugs and therapeutic genes;
• Application of pharmaceutical nanotechnologies in medicinal and cosmetic products.
She is the author of over 85 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact international journals, textbooks, and book chapters. Her work has been cited more than 1,000 times in indexed international databases (JCR, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar).
