Prof. Krassimira Yoncheva graduated from the Faculty Pharmacy at Medical University of Sofia in 1993. The same year she was promoted to assistant professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics. She has specialized in “Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics” and “Clinical Pharmacy” in Medical University of Sofia.
In 2001 Krassimira Yoncheva defended her PhD degree in Pharmaceutics with a thesis entitled “Development of biodegradable poly(malate) microspheres“. From 2001 to 2002 Prof. Yoncheva carried out a specialization focused on polymeric nanoparticles for ocular drug delivery at University of Antwerp (Belgium). During 2002-2004 she completed a specialization in the field of polymeric nanoparticles for oral drug delivery at University of Navarra (Spain).
In 2011 she became Associate Professor and has been a Full Professor since 2016. In 2021 she defended a DSc degree with a thesis entitled “Development of nanosized drug delivery systems loaded with biologically active substances“.
Prof. Yoncheva teaches disciplines “Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics” and “Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics”. She was invited as a lecturer in the University of Navarra (Spain) and University of Siena (Italy).
The research area of Prof. Yoncheva is focused on pharmaceutical nanotechnology. In particular, it is related to development and biopharmaceutical characterization of polymeric micro- and nanoparticulate drug delivery systems, surface modification of nanoparticles by pegylation or coating with bioadhesive polymers, drug stability etc. Prof. Yoncheva has participated in 26 research projects (3 of which international). She is an author of a patent (US8628801B2), more than 130 publications (95 of them with impact factor) with more than 1900 citations (h-index of 27 according to Scopus). She has been appointed reviewer of scientific papers in various journals published by Еlsevier, Taylor&Francis etc. Prof. Yoncheva is a member of the editorial board of the MDPI journal Pharmaceutics (IF 5.5) and serves as a section editor at the journal “Pharmacia” (IF 1.1).
