Assistant professor Antonina Nikolova graduated from the Faculty of Inorganic Technology and Production Automation of UCTM-Sofia in 1989.
Since 1993 she has been an assistant professor, and since 2002 she has been a Head assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry.
She defended her doctoral dissertation on “Complex compounds of Ru (III) with heterocyclic ligands and their cytostatic effects” in the field of “Bioorganic Chemistry, Chemistry of Natural and Physiologically Active Substances”, and since 2004 she is PhD.
Dr. Nikolova majored in “Theoretical Foundations of Medical Chemistry”, a specialization acquired through the SDO at MU-Sofia. Dr. Nikolova currently holds the position of a Head assistant at the Department of Chemistry and is a course supervisor for first-year students.
Dr. Nikolova participates in the training of students in the discipline of General and Inorganic Chemistry.
The research work and the contributions Dr. Antonina Nikolova are in the following areas of the pharmaceutical science and practice: Coordination chemistry of ruthenium; synthesis of new Ru (III) complexes with heterocyclic ligands; examination of the synthesized compounds by IR, MRI, EPR and electron spectroscopy; studying their In-vitro cytostatic effects in tumor cell populations and determining of their acute toxicity. Some relationships have been established between the chemical structure, stability and biological activity of the compounds.
Dr. Nikolova is the author of 7 publications, 3 textbooks with 14 citations in indexed journals such as J. Citation Reports by Clarivate, Scopus by Elsevier, Web of Science by Clavirate and Google scholar.
