Prof. Guenka Petrova graduated at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University of Sofia in 1984 and at the University of national and world economy in 1991. Since 1986 she is working as assistant professor, 1999 as associated professor and since 2010 as Professor at the Department of “Organization and economy of pharmacy”.

Her PhD is on the “Medicines needs and utilization – analysis and forecasting“ and DSc degree is on the “Model of reform of the pharmaceutical system in Balkan countries in transition – analysis of the theoretical concepts application“.  

She specialized on “Organization and economy of Wholesaling and Pharmaceutical Practice” and „Organization and economy of pharmaceutical manufacturing“ at the Medical University of Sofia; “Health economics” at the Canterbury business school and “Pharmacoeconomics” at ISPOR.

Currently she is taking Professor position at the same Department and Deputy Minister on Education and Science. Prof. Petrova developed the subject „Pharmacoeconomics “, participate at the lecturing courses of “Social pharmacy and pharmaceutical legislation “, „Medical devices“, „Pharmaceutical business“ etc. Prof. Petrova also developed the International master degree program on “HTA with pharmacoeconomic”. She is a guest lecturer at the University of Belgrade, University of Nantes et other.

The scientific interest and achievements of Prof. Petrova are in the field of economic studies of the pharmacy, medicines utilization and market, pharmaceutical policy, pharmacoeconomic, health technology assessment, intellectual property etc..

Prof. Petrova authored more than 500 publications out of them above 200 in high impact factor journals; 12 notebooks; 7 books; and has more that 2000 citations in indexed journals

Expert in the field of medicines utilization, pharmacoeconomic, health technology assessment, etc.

Prof. Petrova is leading the Bulgarian team at the HORIZON 2020, COST, Erasmus+ projects and participated at the several national and international projects.

Editor in Chief of the Journal Biotechnology and Biotechnology Equipment, issued by the Taylor &Francis.

Member of the editorial board of Biomed health service research; Farmacia etc.

Reviewer for Frontiers in Public health, Frontiers in Pharmacology, Value in health, Expert review of Pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research, etc.

Member of the expert group at the MoH, Min Educ and Science, NCPR etc.

Member of International society of Pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research (ISPOR); BPHU, BPA, BAPh, BADI etc.
