Prof. Milen Dimitrov graduated summa cum laude from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Medical University of Sofia in 1994. Since 1996 he has been an assistant professor, since 1999 he has been a senior assistant professor, since 2001 a head assistant professor, since 2012 an associate professor and since 2016 a full professor at the Department “Pharmaceutical technology and biopharmacy”. He defended his PhD thesis titled “Application of statistical approaches in the analysis of model systems with prolonged release of cytisine” in doctoral program in pharmaceutical technology and biopharmacy. He has specialties in Pharmaceutical technology and Biopharmacy, Organization and Economics of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Organization and Economics of Pharmaceutical and Distribution Practice, Hospital Pharmacy acquired under the postgraduate study in Medical University-Sofia and completed a second master’s degree in Public health and Health Management in Faculty in Public Health of Medical University-Sofia. He is currently a fill professor at the Department Pharmaceutical technology and biopharmacy and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of Students taught pharmacy in Bulgarian and English.
Participates in teaching “Pharmaceutical technology Part I and II”; Biopharmacy and Pharmacokinetics; “Pediatric dosage forms”; “Processes and apparatus in the manufacture of dosage forms”; “Standards for quality in the production of medicinal products (GMP)”, “Hospital Pharmacy” in Bulgarian and / or English taught in the department and in the training of non-pharmacists – qualified persons for the pharmaceutical industry.
Prof. Dimitrov’s research work and contributions are in several areas of pharmaceutical science and practice: development of age-specific dosage forms for pediatric practice; modified-release single- and multi-particle formulations; chronopharmaceutical dosage forms; experimental design in the QbD concept for pharmaceutical production, etc. He is the author of over 150 publications and 10 textbooks, with more than 270 citations in indexed journals in J. Citation Reports of the ISI Web of Knowledge-Thomson Reuters, Google scholar and others.
Expert in the field of pharmaceutical science and practice and pediatric dosage forms – member of working groups at the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines (EDQM), Strasbourg and member of specialized committees of the Bulgarian Drug Agency. Participant and /or leader of 19 research projects funded by the Medical Science Council of MU-Sofia and the Ministry of Education. Subject editor of Pharmacia scientific magazine. Member of the editorial board of the journal Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Iran. Reviewer for leading international scientific journals. Expert at the National Council on Prices and Reimbursement of Medicinal Products
