Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria which is a relatively small country in SE Europe. The city lies in the western part of Bulgaria at the foot of Vitosha mountain.
The Faculty building is situated in the heart of Sofia, just behind the St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral, and close to the National Assembly. Although close to shops and transportation it is in a very quiet location.
Our school was founded in 1942 as a Department of Pharmacy at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Sofia University. Eight years later, we became part of the newly established Medical Academy, now known as the Medical University of Sofia. For more than fifty years, about 8000 pharmacists have completed their education here, among which more than 750 internationals.
Students come from Macedonia, Greece, Vietnam, Israel, Morocco, Syria, Jordan, Nigeria and more than 40 other countries. During the 1999/2000 academic year 1060 students are trained at the Faculty of Pharmacy, with more than 200 internationals.
Taxes for the Bulgarian students are determined by the Ministry of Education.
Most students preer to live in dorms, because they are quite cheap. Others choose to rent rooms or apartments, which usually cost about Euro 350/month.
Students can take advantage of all sport facilities of the Medical University. Sofia offers entertainment for everyone. Many theaters, cinemas, an opera house, parks, restaurants, bars, pubs and clubs are opened around the clock. All this, combined with the easy access to Vitosha Mountain makes our city a perfect place not only for hard studying, but also for recreation.
The building of the Faculty has 3 lecture halls and 30 training labs equipped with many modern facilities. The computer room and the library offer to the students free access to Internet. There is a botanical garden in the yard. In the neighborhood of our building, the National Gallery for Foreign Art /on the picture/ is located.
